Description of Practice:
Al Thel has been a partner of Voss, Cook & Thel LLP since February 1984 and is the Firm’s Managing Partner. Al started his practice as a business and finance lawyer, representing financial institutions, public and private companies, and individuals in debt and equity financings, private placements, secured and unsecured lending as well as corporate clients in mergers and acquisitions. He also developed a general corporate practice representing clients in the manufacturing, service, educational, hospitality, advertising and insurance industries. Since joining Voss, Cook & Thel LLP, his practice has emphasized the general real estate area, representing medium to large size commercial, industrial and retail developers while continuing his corporate practice.
Al’s real estate developer clients include MBK Real Estate LLC and MBK Senior Living LLC, Regency Centers, Golden Horizon Enterprises and K&G Equities. Retail leasing clients include Javier’s Mexican Restaurants, Buffalo Wild Wings and Chronic Tacos. Al also acts as outside counsel for such diverse entities as the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, horse race tracks, owners and operators of convalescent homes and senior assisted living facilities, pension fund investors and REIT’s, Alarin Aircraft Hinge, Inc., Barrister Executive Suites, Weber Plywood & Lumber, Riverside Health Care, SunWize Technologies, as well as a variety of other businesses such as restaurants, individual investors and developers, advertising agencies, distributors and manufacturers. As counsel for these clients, he has supervised these clients’ legal services, ranging from incentive compensation plans, acquisitions and dispositions of assets and stock, tenant lease negotiations, employee termination matters, corporate financing and the various other matters that arise in small to medium size businesses.
Al received his undergraduate (1971) and law (1978) degrees from the University of Virginia. Al served four years as an Officer in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers between college and law school. He devotes substantially all of his non-working time to the ever elusive pursuit of mastering his golf game.
